- Langston Hughes (1902–1967), American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and one of the leading figures of the Harlem Renaissance, a cultural and artistic movement centered in Harlem, New York, during the 1920s. His work captured the essence of Black life and culture in America and sought to convey the joys, struggles, and resilience of African Americans.
